Several Brentford players are away on international duty this week as they have been called up to their respective squads.

Ezri Konsa will be with the England under-21s side that faces Italy and Denmark as the Young Lions seek to qualify for next year’s European Championships.

They are top of their group through 10 games, eight points ahead of the Netherlands, and will want to improve on 2017’s semi-finals finish in Poland.

Chris Mepham is one of nine players aged 21 and under in Ryan Giggs’ Wales team preparing to continue its UEFA Nations League campaign.

And either his fifth or sixth international cap could come up against team-mate Henrik Dalsgaard, who has been called up to the Danish squad.

The 29-year-old, who scored his second goal this season in Brentford’s 3-2 defeat to QPR, said he looked forward to the potential clash.

Dalsgaard said: “It’s always a pleasure playing for Denmark. Hopefully I’m playing both games so hopefully I’ll beat Meps [Chris Mepham], make his week a bit worse, and I’m definitely looking forward to it.”

Meanwhile, Bees captain Romaine Sawyers is in line for his 23rd and 24th caps for St Kitts and Nevis since making his debut during their 2012 Caribbean Cup qualifying campaign.

Sawyers has scored four times for his national side in his six-year international career, bringing the total of Brentford players on duty this week to four.
