Forward Jerson dos Santos got Carshalton Athletic out of FA Trophy jail as they beat Met Police 2-1 on Monday.

The Robins forced a replay last weekend after coming from two-down to leave Imber Court at 5pm still in the competition.

Carshalton had to do it the hard way again as Jack Mazzone put the visitors in front on 33rd minutes, only for dos Santos to turn things around with strikes either side of half-time.

The first cup victory for Carshalton this season now means the Robins will host Harlow Town in the second qualifying round later this month.

"We didn't need much of a talking to ahead of this one, everyone knew what we had to do and it was a case of putting in a little bit extra," said dos Santos who now has four goals for the season.

"Met Police are a young side but they defended well. They almost always had all their players behind the ball when we had it. We just had to be patient and be ready for any mistakes they made."

That claim rings true when considering dos Santos' first - a long ball by Danny Dudley flicked off the head of Blues defender Nesta Guinness-Walker and landed at the striker's feet, but he still had a lot to do.

"I wanted to get a good touch and then shoot but their keeper came out early. I thought he'd block a low shot so I decided to go round him and I've managed to tuck it in from the angle" dos Santos smiled.

But his second finish showed a real touch of class as, just two minutes after the restart, dos Santos guided a powerful angled cross by Tommy Bradford inside the far post with his right instep.

Carshalton are now five games unbeaten since, ironically, a 4-0 win over Harlow Town back in mid-October ended a six game winless run.

"We've gelled more recently and the mood around the camp is great," added dos Santos. "We need to keep this momentum building. We have players coming back to put pressure on every position, so everyone needs to be at the top of their game."

Carshalton Athletic's next match sees them travel to Brightlingsea Regent for a league encounter on Saturday 3rd November (kick-off 3pm).
