Roy Hodgson was full of praise of his captain Luka Milivojevic after rescuing a point against Arsenal.

The Serbian stepped up to take both spot kicks after missing his previous attempt in the defeat at Everton last weekend and the point ended a three league game losing streak.

"After people speculated he cost us points at Everton, to step up again in two very important moments is great credit to him," said Hodgson.

"There are lots of theories surrounding penalties, but you need players with mental strength to step up and score. It’s not so much about technique because every player on the pitch has technique, it’s about the mental strength."

Hodgson also praised his side’s defence as they kept the Arsenal front-line relatively quiet in their 2-2 draw on Sunday.

A thunderbolt from Granite Xhaka and a controversial Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strike broke the Eagles rear-guard but Hodgson was impressed how his side kept a stellar cast of forwards at bay.

"We played against a team packed full of quality players, so to keep them quiet is pleasing.

"Our offensive players were more noticeable than their forwards which is great credit to our defenders."

Hodgson said he was satisfied with the point after falling behind but felt hard done by with the manner of Arsenal’s second goal. Aubameyang prodded home from close range but replays clearly show Alexandre Lacazette handled above his head in the build-up.

"We worked so hard to get the lead at half time so to see it wiped out in the space of five minutes is disappointing. The second was unjust.

"I thought the attitude of the players and the way we got in control of the game again after going behind, it was a very deserved equaliser. I'm very happy with the performance; I'm just a bit sad it didn't give us the three points."

Crystal Palace’s performance comes at the right tome for Roy Hodgson as his side now face three difficult ties against Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United.
