There was late drama on the Kent coast Tuesday night as Carshalton Athletic won a rollercoaster game with a stoppage time thunderbolt, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

The Robins, despite being 1-0 up at half-time against hosts Folkestone Invicta, had to claim their third win on the bounce by overturning a 2-1 deficit with just 15 minutes to go.

And it was substitute Raheem Sterling-Parker whom hit a rocket from outside the area in added time, his first goal of the season, to ensure the Carshalton fans travelled back jubilant.

Although Jacob Mendy thumped a shot against a Folkestone post in the first minute, the match was evenly balanced as neither goalkeeper had much to do in the opening half-hour.

But Carshalton broke the deadlock through Jerson dos Santos’ second of the season on 37 minutes.

The second-half started much the opposite as Folkestone came out and levelled on 48 via a low Ronnie Dolan effort.

And the home side went in front on 74 minutes after Johan ter Horst took advantage of some hesitancy in the Robins defence to round keeper Billy Bishop and score.

Enter Daniel Pappoe – firstly the Carshalton defender blocked a shot on his own line to prevent Folkestone going further ahead.

Then, in the 84th minute, Carshalton won a corner and Pappoe popped up to grab his first goal since joining the club on loan from Dulwich Hamlet a month ago.

Claiming a draw from that position might’ve satisfied most in the Carshalton camp, but up popped Sterling-Parker to beat keeper Tim Roberts all ends up from 30 yards in added time.

Carshalton Athletic put league endeavours on hold this weekend as they travel to Met Police for an FA Trophy first qualifying round match (kick-off 3pm).
