Tom Elliott started his second successive league game this season on Saturday and he believes his patience has been rewarded.

Elliott started the away draw at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday and against Aston Villa on the weekend, where he got the winner in a 2-1 victory.

“Since I’ve been here I have been patient and waited for my chance. When I got my chance I just wanted to do well,” said Elliott.

“I have been waiting for this for a long time and it gives me that confidence and belief. I got a goal (on Saturday) and helped the team get the three points. The team deserved it, but the team also needed it.

“Coming off the bench sometimes everything feels 100-miles-per-hour, but starting a game is different. It was a lot better to start a couple games in a row and be a part of the team.”

Despite their victory Neil Harris’ side sit in the relegation zone but Elliott maintains the mood is good in the camp and it’s down to the manager.

“The changing room hasn’t changed. Everyone is together at the minute and we have a great team morale.”

“It’s down to the gaffer really. If we lose he will tell us when we need to be told but on the Monday he will come in bubbly and get us going again.

“We are the players that he has signed. We are going to work hard and be together. It is his team.”

Elliott played up front alongside Lee Gregory against Forest and Villa and believes their partnership will be fruitful.

“Gregory is a minimum 7/10 every week and was my Man of the Match today. Lee works so hard, he is a small striker but plays like a big man at times and I love Lee to bits.

“I love scoring goals and I am happy that I could help the team, I am a striker at the end of the day.”

With international fixtures taking place over the next fortnight, Elliott will need to remain patient until they travel to Reading on the October 20.
