Yoann Barbet scored in injury time as 10-man Brentford shared the spoils with Reading in a heated and frantic clash at Griffin Park.

Neal Maupay’s ninth league goal this season was cancelled out when Daniel Bentley couldn’t keep out Jon Bodvarsson’s strike.

Reading went in front in the second-half, as Said Benrahma received his marching orders, but Barbet found space to head home the equaliser.

The Bees have now claimed eight points from their last six games as they jumped into sixth place in the Sky Bet Championship.

Dean Smith reintroduced key players as he made several changes to the team which lost to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup during midweek.

The hosts began with intent to strike first as Said Benrahma whipped in a dangerous cross that ran across the face of goal.

Romaine Sawyers threatened to open the scoring before his driven shot was timely blocked by Leandro Bacuna, as the visitors came under pressure.

Soon enough they got their rewards when Neal Maupay slotted home into the bottom-left corner past Sam Walker on 11 minutes.

It could have been two when Ollie Watkins tried to hit the target rom a Lewis Macleod cross but the ball drifted past the far post.

But Reading found their equaliser when Daniel Bentley scrambled to keep out Bodvarsson’s effort, only for Geoff Eltringham to rule it to have cross the goal line.

The second 45 minutes were packed with drama, as a four-minute delay over a free-kick saw Josh McEachran and Leandra Bacuna booked amid a scuffle breaking out.

Watkins was the second to be cautioned within minutes when he hacked down Saeid Ezatolahi chasing a loose ball in the centre circle.

Brentford quickly began to lose their discipline – Said Benrahma forced Walker to spill the ball from a whipped-in cross before getting booked for a foul at the other end.

That saw Ezatolahi arrow the ball at Bentley, with former Bees loanee John Swift looking to have forced home the rebound.

Goalscorer Maupay was the next to go into Eltringham’s book when he barged Andy Yiadom down to the turf.

Though Smith run the changes – bringing in Sergi Canós, Kamohelo Mokotjo, and Alan Judge – he found himself down to 10 men when Benrahma was sent off.

Brentford were handed a lifeline when the referee gave 10 additional minutes, and they took advantage when Barbet headed home at the back post.

More bookings were handed out when substitute Judge got booked, as Brentford couldn’t find the winner despite leading to begin with.
