Alan Judge hit a stunning free-kick to try and save Brentford’s Carabao Cup hopes but a Danny Welbeck helped see Arsenal through.

The former Manchester United striker scored twice in just over half an hour to see the Gunners take a comfortable lead.

Brentford showed a much-improved performance in the second-half as Judge cut the deficit but it wasn’t enough.

Despite Brentford showing a much-improved performance after the restart, substitute Alexandre Lacazette’s late goal finished off the tie.

Here’s how we rated Brentford’s players...

Luke Daniels - 6 - Perhaps could have done better for the first, unlucky for the seconds. Made a terrific stop against Henrik Mkhitaryan and Nacho Monreal in the second half.

Moses Odubajo - 6 - Aside from once where he was caught flat-footed he looked comfortable in defence. Bright second half before coming off for Dalsgaard

Ezri Konsa - 8 - Came up against a brilliant Danny Welbeck who had a bit too much quality. The yellow card was probably fair.

Julian Jeanvier - 5 - Did poorly for the third goal. Looked uncomfortable at the beginning but began to acclimatise, and overcame a knock from earlier on.

Yoann Barbet - 6 - Mkhitaryan gave him trouble when he drifted wide, avenues looked to open up behind him as he was forced into foot races for the ball. Made a good run to try and score.

Kamohelo Mokotjo - 5 - Not his best game, was caught out a few times with intercepted passes. Was fortunate on some of those occasions

Nico Yennaris - 6 - Forced to cover a lot of ground but ultimately led fairly well from midfield.

Alan Judge - 7 - Great second half and a fantastic free-kick. Looked lively and Brentford’s best attacking option thereafter.

Romaine Sawyers - 6 - Drove the attack from midfield, and made clever passes, though Mohamed Elneny and Matteo Guendozi didn’t have too much to worry about.

Sergi Canós - 7 - Took him a while to settle but the second 45 minutes saw more of him. Almost doubled Brentford’s lead after Judge’s goal.

Ollie Watkins - 5 - Tough job going up against Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi but not much was seen of him after the first half. Had a decent opportunity in the opening exchanges.
