With the rugby season underway in the Gallagher Premiership we’ve seen Quins pick up six points from a possible ten.

With a high scoring victory over Sale at The Stoop followed by a bonus point defeat at Northampton, are the signs good for Paul Gustard’s men or does the fourth-place table position deceive?

We’re asking Quins fans to get in touch with their thoughts on the situation.

This week Joe Mullis from Hammersmith shares his views following the defeat at Franklin Gardens.

Attack the best form of defence?

Despite an impressive score against Sale in the opening game it’s still clear that with the change in coaching, Quins are still lacking in defence and that was proved in the Saints game on Friday night.

Quins constantly kicked away possession to play a more defensive game, but to do so they needed to be disciplined in defence, which they weren’t. They gave away an endless stream of needless penalties which Biggar capitalised on.

What is also clear is how short Quins are on the bench, they were missing a few big names in the pack before kick-off and also quite rightly bought off Danny Care after giving away two high tackles.

With an ageing squad and very few signings this summer I can only see the issue getting worse.

On a positive note I think Marcus Smith played well again and also made an excellent try saving tackle, especially as my biggest concerns around the young England hopeful is his size and physicality.

I also think that Nathan Earle has settled into the squad well and will be a big part of the jester’s plans moving forward. The last 10 minutes of the game were by far the best to watch, as Quins were in a potential try scoring position to tie the game but couldn’t finish the job as the clock went to 80 minutes.

Hopefully the squad will be at full strength for Saturdays game against Bath and Quins can secure some much need early points going into the rest of the season.
