Scott Evans and James Robertson may have secured a Kingston & Polytechnic Harriers one and two in the opening race of the Surrey Cross Country League on Saturday, but it was not enough for a team triumph.
Evans led the senior men’s squad home in the Division Three race on Roundshaw Common as he clocked 25 minutes 34 seconds to win ahead of team-mate Robertson, who crossed the line 32 seconds later in 26:06.
But the pair were the club’s only top 10 finishers as the squad came fifth overall behind match winners Epsom & Ewell Harriers.
Kingston-based Stragglers Running Club were second with Paul Lowe leading the team home in fourth [26:41].
