AFC Wimbledon boss Dave Anderson has launched an emotional rallying cry to Dons players and supporters with his side's promotion tilt hanging in the balance.

Saturday's 1-1 draw with Heybridge Swifts and Margate's stalemate against Ashford Town leaves Dons just a point ahead of the Kent side in the race for the last play-off spot with one game to play.

Anderson's men travel to East Thurrock on Saturday, and anything other than a Dons victory will mean they must rely on Margate slipping up against Hendon.

The Dons chief has stoked the fire in an attempt to inspire his players and the club's supporters ahead of the big showdown.

He said: "I want our supporters to be how they have been in the past few weeks.

"I think they have been great with us and they understand that it is difficult, and I want them to hang in there with us on Saturday.

"And what I will say to my players is that, yes, it is a big game, but this is what you play football for.

"I want them to enjoy it - but to not have any regrets; do not come off the pitch saying if only I had done this or that."

Despite securing just 13 points from a possible 27 in their past nine matches, the Dons' promotion destiny is still in their hands, which is the be-all and end-all, according to Anderson.

"It's in our hands and that means everything to us," he said.

"We can decide our own destiny.

"We have a young squad, and it's one I desperately want to take on."

Anderson admitted his side had been feeling the pressure as the race for a play-off place came down to the final day of the season - but the Ulsterman has demanded they stand up and be counted against East Thurrock.

"I think our players have dealt with the pressure well on the pitch and in training, and that's because they are a great bunch of lads," he added.

"But of course they feel the pressure.

"I think everyone in the ground on Saturday felt it. But we have to deal with it and get the result. That is paramount."
