Coombe Boys’ School’s golden generation of footballers hope to add another English Schools FA Cup crown to their trophy cabinet next week, writes Tom Bowers.
The New Malden-based school’s U15 boys head to Reading’s Madejski stadium on Wednesday for the ESFA Playstation Open Schools’ U15 Cup final where they will face Ribblesdale High School from Clitheroe.
The same group of players tasted PlayStation Schools’ Cup success last season when they defeated Chester-based Christleton High School 4-1 to get their hands on the U14 Open Schools’ Cup.
Coombe Boys have beaten Harris Academy Falconwood (5-1), Greig City Academy (4-0) Aylward Academy (5-1), Harefield Academy (5-2), Humphrey Perkins High School & Community Centre (9-0) and Oasis Academy Shirley Park (6-3 AET) to reach this stage of the competition.
The PlayStation Schools’ Cup festival attracts more than 5,000 spectators.
