AFC Wimbledon 2 Carshalton Athletic 0

AFC Wimbledon boss Dave Anderson admitted he was never at ease despite beating Carshalton Athletic to go back to the top of the table.

A fortunate header from Roscoe Dsane and a curling effort from Steve Ferguson condemned Dave Garland's men to defeat and secured the three points that sends the Dons to the summit of the Ryman Premier Division.

Anderson was forced to rush back Antony Howard from his broken nose to ease his central defensive crisis and Paul Smith replaced Andy Little in goal who was suffering from a knee injury.

Despite the enforced changes the Dons eased their way to the three points but boss Anderson admits that he was never comfortable even at 2-0.

He said: "I wasn't comfortable all night and I wasn't comfortable before I got here because it's the sort of game that we could have slipped up.

"People expect us to come here and win 4-0 but I have been the game far too long to know that that's not the case.

"I wasn't at ease the whole night - I wanted that third goal and if we had scored that goal then maybe I could have enjoyed it.

"I don't think we were at our best - but if you're going to win a league title you're going to have to win half a dozen games like this one."

The Dons boss admitted that he was delighted that his side had gone back to the top of the table.

He said: "We are top of the league, we have not conceded and when I wake up in the morning it will be a nice feeling to know we are top."

The Dons evening got off to the best possible start after nine minutes when Michael Haswell's corner was headed goalwards by Dsane and somehow found its way into the back of the net via a deflection off Robins defender Jon Cartledge.

And 11 minutes later the Dons doubled their lead after pure pace and power saw Ferguson sail past Robins right back Simon Cooper and the front man unleashed an unstoppable curling effort past keeper Aaron Howe from 18 yards.

Mark Rooney and Steve Butler both had chances to add to the home sides lead before Ryan Watts' effort was cleared off the line by Jermaine Darlington on the stroke of half-time.

Lewis Cook came on for Steve Wales at half time and the diminutive midfielder's first contribution was to hit the cross bar on 48 minutes with a stinging left-footed free kick.

Carshalton substitute Charley Side and Luke Fontana both had chances to score but both sent their efforts wide of Paul Smith's left hand upright as the Dons held on for the three points.
