Wimbledon RFC's second row Jack Fishwick is critcially ill in hospital after breaking his neck in the side's London Division One South game at Haywards Heath on Saturday.
The 26-year-old, a former student at St. Mary's University College, was injured in the opening exchanges and air-lifted to hospital.
After a 14-hour operation, Fishwick remains on a ventilator and the RFU's critical care unit is working with the club in supporting the player's family.
Wimbledon coach James Ogilvy-Bull said: "All our thoughts are with Jack and his family right now."
Fishwick works as freelance sports injury rehabilitator and masseur, specialising in musculoskeletal injury treatment, management and rehabilitation.
