Martin Fillo admitted getting his first goal for Brentford is a huge weight off his shoulders.

The Czech international struck the second in the Bees’ 3-2 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge in the Capital One Cup last night.

The 27-year-old was making his competitive home debut after a substitute appearance in the first game of the League One seasonat Port Vale.

And on a night of high drama – and which saw him finish the game with a Terry Butcher style head bandage – he calmly slotted home from the edge of the penalty area to give Brentford a 2-1 lead.

He said: “I needed this goal because I didn’t score in pre-season. It’s my first proper game here and I scored so I’m happy.”

“It feels good to win and be in the next round of the cup, it was an important victory.

“Because there are so many players in the squad it’s good to do well in the cup, so the players who don’t play in the league can play cup matches and show themselves to the manager.”
