Brentford boss Uwe Rosler said his charges avoided an opening day League One banana skin with a point at Port Vale on Saturday.

Shaleum Logan had the Bees ahead at newly promoted Vale, but the lead lasted all of four minutes before Doug Loft levelled on the half-hour mark.

Bees had chances to win the game, but Clayton Donaldson was denied by the woodwork and Vale stopper Daniel Jones in quick succession.

Rosler said: "It was a possible banana skin for us today, it was a massive and sticky pitch and it didn't suit our style.

"But I felt we controlled the game and concentration cost us three points."

He added: "I felt our offensive play was very good but we didn't test the keeper in the second half enough, but when you see our potential going forward, it's frightening.

"Port Vale are a difficult side to beat and many teams will have problems here but if you can't win, make sure you don't lose."
