Conor O’Shea is brimming with excitement after learning who Harlequins will play in the inaugural World Club 7s in August.

The draw for the tournament at Twickenham between 12 of the best club teams in the world has paired Quins with Australian side ACT Brummies, New Zealanders Auckland Blues and Russians Kuban Krasnador.

The Brummies and Blues are both former Super Rugby champions, with the Brummies currently leading this season’s championship, but Krasnador are an unknown quantity – part of the reason O’Shea is excited.

“To be part of the inaugural World Club 7s is going to be very special,” he said.

“How long since we have seen clubs from all over the world compete in a competition? We know a lot about the Brummies and Blues, but not knowing much about Kuban Krasnador makes it exciting.

“The 7s is a different sport to first team rugby and the teams can be much more competitive as this is what they play more of in their country and I think we will see a lot of future talent on show.

“We play a friendly against London Scottish on the Friday night and then have the 7s on the Saturday and Sunday, so the players will be blowing a bit, but 7s suits our way of playing the game.”

Meanwhile, Quins stars Mike Brown and Joe Marler have kept their places in the England team for tomorrow’s second Test with Argentina, having both played in last weekend’s first test 32-3 win.
