Brentford defender Tony Craig knows both the highs and lows of playing at Wembley and is keen to make sure this Sunday’s fixture is a positive one for the Bees.

In 2010 he suffered a broken foot while his Millwall side won promotion to the Championship and he hopes his new team can repeat that fate, although he’d prefer not to pick up another injury.

“I was on crutches when I walked up the steps, so I’d like to be unaided this time.

“I’ve won one final, and lost one; I’ve had the highest point of my career at Wembley and certainly the lowest, so hopefully Sunday will be another high.”

Craig had been an ever-present in the Brentford team this season until his sending off against Sheffield United, which saw him miss the Doncaster game as well as the first-leg of the play offs, however he returned for the second-leg and scored his penalty in the shoot-out to help them get to this stage.

He stressed that the focus was all on Sunday’s match he does believe that the team would be well equipped for the jump up the divisions.

He said: “We’ve got a good young squad here, at 28 I’m one of the oldest, and obviously if we did go up the manager would bring in some new players.

“We seem to play with no fear and we’ve got a game plan to get through most games and hopefully that will take us through.”

“You look back at Brentford’s record in the play offs, and it’s not good but hopefully the tide can turn.

“It’s been an unbelievable season; it seems we don’t do anything the simple way but we’ve worked hard as a team and now we have to take it as it comes.

“It’s a great test for everyone; we have to do the job, and the reward is Championship football.”
