Brentford were frustrated in their efforts to sustain their push for automatic promotion, taking just a point against Coventry City in a 1-1 draw at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

While the Bees enjoyed a large amount of possession, they rarely troubled Coventry goalkeeper Joe Murphy.

Harry Forrester saw an early free kick blocked by the wall, while a quarter of an hour later he just missed the ball when attempting to head home from six yards out.

For Coventry a long range strike from Steven Jennings barely troubled Simon Moore. Carl Baker then picked up the ball on the edge of the box, before shooting over the bar.

Steven Jennings then unleashed a shot that brought a brilliant save out of Moore, who then saw Harlee Dean clear a follow up effort from Baker off the line.

Clayton Donaldson came close to putting the Bees ahead when he latched onto a ball down the left and beat the advancing Joe Murphy to the ball, but his lob was inches wide of the right hand post.

A minute later a good break down the left saw Adam Forshaw cross and Jonathan Douglas head inches wide of the same right hand post.

Frank Moussa had a speculative shot from the edge of the box, which as held by Moore.

The Sky Blues took the lead in the final minute of the half after a penalty was harshly awarded following a tussle inside the box involving Harlee Dean and Baker calmly slotted the ball past Moore from the spot.

Brentford were level within a minute of the restart when Donaldson crossed from the right and an unmarked Forrester steered the ball home.

Moore was troubled by a long range shot which bounced up just in front of him, which Dean scrambled clear for a corner.

With a couple of minutes remaining substitute Sam Saunders fired in a dangerous free kick from wide on the left, but it went straight into the hands of Murphy.

A minute later Donaldson missed a glorious chance when he miss-hit his shot in front of goal.
