Residents of an extra care scheme in Colliers Wood have been getting creative with a series of pottery painting workshops.
Sanctuary’s Trellis House has played host to a series of the ‘Funky Potters’ painting sessions, with a range of themes from wild animals like lions and giraffes to tamer creatures like dogs and cats.
The workshops, which run until the end of March, have offered each resident the chance to put their own stamp on a piece through their choice of colours and decorations, before handing it back to Funky Potters’ Zara Labdouni to be returned to them once glazed.
Tenant Joyce Thornton said: “I thought it was fantastic and very therapeutic. The end product was lovely.”
Sanctuary scheme service manager Beverley Tomkins said: “The Funky Potters workshops have provided a great opportunity for residents to get involved in something creative, and many have chosen to pass on the fruits of their labour to loved ones as gifts.
“Sanctuary is committed to helping residents lead happy, healthy and fulfilled lives and hosting projects such as this is a great way for us to achieve those goals.”
The project was part-funded by Sanctuary Housing’s Grand Ideas Fund, which is currently accepting applications from community projects benefiting Sanctuary residents and their communities.
