A Putney schoolgirl who was named Kingston’s Young Musician of the Year for 2018 has showcased her musical talents at a student competition in Wales.

Year 12 pupil Mio Takahasi performed in front of other musicians, judges, and alumna in the final of the GDST Young Musician of the Year contest at Howell’s School in Cardiff on February 8.

It follows after fellow Putney High School student Anna Brown, who is in Year 10, was named Wandsworth Musician of the Year for this year as well.

Harpist and GDST alumna Anna Lapwood said: “It is incredible to see the talent displayed by all the students taking part in this year’s competition. Music is a unique opportunity for all students to have fun, explore their creativity, and also develop their crucial learning skills such as teamwork and collaboration.

“It’s clear we have some future stars in the making, and it’s wonderful that they have the opportunity to experience competing and performing at this early stage in their careers.”

Mio was a finalist at the GDST Young Musician of the Year competition, which was attended by 23 schools and two academies across the GDST network.
