It’s a new year, but things on the trains haven’t changed (apart from getting more expensive).

Southern Rail and South Western Railway workers from the RMT Union are on strike again today (Monday, January 8).

South Western

A number of South Western routes have been affected and the company has drawn up new timetables for today, which you are best off checking the website to see. Some of them involve to joy of replacement buses.

Southern

Southern said most routes will operate normally or ‘near-normally’ in south London today – how positively you view that depends, we guess, on your view of the company’s ‘normal’ service.

The full Gatwick Express and Thameslink service is expected to operate on all routes.

The company said It may be necessary for a queuing system to be put in place at Clapham Junction.

There will, however, by problems affecting commuters to and from south London.

West London Line

At peak times, there will be a limited service on the West London line, meaning only the following trains run.

• 07:30 Coulsdon Town to Watford Junction

• 08:14 Clapham Junction to Shepherds Bush

• 08:34 Shepherds Bush to Clapham Junction

• 08:50 Clapham Junction to Shepherds Bush

• 09:07 Shepherds Bush to Clapham Junction

• 09:15 Watford Junction to Clapham Junction

• 09:24 Clapham Junction to Shepherds Bush

• 16:13 Selhurst to Watford Junction

• 17:52 Watford Junction to Clapham Junction

• 18:39 Clapham Junction to Watford Junction

• 19:54 Watford Junction to Clapham Junction

Guildford services

The following Southern services between Guildford and London will operate.

• 07:22 Guildford to London Bridge

• 19:04 Guildford to Sutton

• 17:25 London Bridge to Guildford

• 06:30 Sutton to Guildford

The remaining services will not operate between Guildford and Epsom.

• 06:36 London Victoria to Guildford (will terminate at Epsom)

• 08:16 Guildford to London Victoria (will start from Epsom)

• 16:36 London Victoria to Guildford (will terminate at Epsom)

• 18:22 Guildford to London Victoria (will start from Epsom)

Southwestern’s strike advice says: “If you hold an Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak or Advance ticket valid for travel on the dates affected by the strike you may use these tickets for travel on the day they were booked for, on the day before or the day after the strike subject to the same travel and time restrictions on SWR services, only. (Tickets will not be valid on other train operators services on non-strike days.)”
