Shoppers learned how to cut down on sugar when a roadshow came to Croydon.
Advisors at the Change4Life event at the Whitgift Centre raised awareness of the high levels of sugar families consume every day.
And they offered parents practical advice on how to cut down on the amount they eat by making one or more simple swaps.
Changes recommended by the Change4Life team include having low fat low sugar yoghurt for pudding instead of ice cream and choosing a fruited teacake instead of a muffin for an after school snack.
Croydon Council’s cabinet member for people and communities Councillor Louisa Woodley said: “Cutting down on sugary food, drinks and snacks is important, but we understand the dilemma some parents face trying to provide their children with a proper balanced diet.
“Croydon’s public health team is supporting schools and communities in the borough to be healthier and more active, through initiatives such as the Food Flagship programme and Croydon Heart Town.”
