Customers at Sainsbury’s in North Cheam donated enough food to provide 2,000 meals for vulnerable people affected by poverty.
It was all part of the Million Meal Appeal which is run with Sainsbury’s charity partner FareShare, a charity dedicated to tackling hunger and food waste.
Over the weekend of October 6-7 Sainsbury’s matched every meal donated by customers, so in total 4,000 meals were donated.
Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Burstow said: “It was great to see the generosity of North Cheam customers who made a donation to this fantastic initiative.
“Food poverty is still a major issue in this country and the Million Meal Appeal helps to address the situation and tackle the issue head-on.
Every donation is going to support charities and projects that need our help, so a big thank-you to everyone who donated over the weekend.”
