Research by a prestigious law firm has revealed that this Friday is the deadliest day to be on the road as a driver amid warnings to commuters this week.
The Simpson Millar practice analysed the latest accident data from the Department of Transport and found where the majority of accidents occur across the UK as well as the peak times for these road incidents.
With the easing of Covid restrictions, data revealed that road traffic accidents are on the rise again with 11% more in 2021 when compared to 2020.
In 2021, Research revealed the areas with the highest total percentage of English road accidents with London making up a whopping 23% of them.

English regions with the highest percentage of road traffic accidents
Here are the English regions with the highest percentage of English road accidents in 2021:
- London (23%)
- South East (17%)
- North West (11%)
- Yorkshire and the Humber (10%)
- East of England (10%)
- South West (9%)
- West Midlands (8.5%)
- East Midlands (7.8%)
- North East (3.2%)
The research revealed that the South East of England accounted for 17% of English road accidents while the North West made up 11%.
While areas like Yorkshire and the Humber and the East of England accounted for 10% respectively, the area with the lowest percentage on this list was the North East with 3.2% of England's road accidents.
Road traffic accidents across the UK
The research found that across the UK, Scotland had seen the biggest drop in road accidents over the past 20 years with incidents down 73% since 2001.
Wales also saw a decrease, with 65% fewer accidents in 2021 compared to 2001.
English regions have also experienced a drop when compared to 2001 with the North West of England seeing a fall of 66%.
The Deadliest time to be on the road this Friday
According to data, the deadliest day to be on the road is this Friday (November 25) while the most dangerous time to drive on this day is between 3 to 5 pm.
This is the peak time for road traffic accidents with most (55%) happening at low speeds of 21 to 30mph.
