Transport for London (TfL) is offering an Oyster card with £80 credit to anyone who buys a pair of limited edition trainers costing the same amount.

The footwear is being sold by Adidas to mark the 15th anniversary of the electronic travel card being launched in the capital.

Three designs will be available, featuring TfL logos such as a Mind The Gap roundel and a map of the world’s first underground line, known today as the Metropolitan line.

In addition to the £80 Oyster card, each pair will be sold with a leather Oyster wallet and packaging inspired by vintage posters found at abandoned Tube stations.

More than 100 million people have used Oyster cards since they were launched on June 30 2003.

They revolutionised the way public transport was paid for in the capital, and can be used for journeys by Tube, rail, bus, boat and cable car.

TfL’s director of commercial development Graeme Craig said: “The Tube, its roundel and the Oyster card are all iconic symbols of London and this partnership shows how two world-renowned brands can work together to produce something truly original.

“Collaborations like this help provide vital funds that we invest in modernising the transport network for the benefit of all of our customers.”

Adidas has chosen its Temper Run, Continental 80 and ZX 500RM designs for the collaboration.

Just 500 pairs of each type will be available from Saturday at two Adidas Originals shops in London and other selected retailers, costing £80.

Gavin Thomson from Adidas said: “This partnership allows Adidas to celebrate the world’s most famous transport system and London through our designs.”
