A mother-of-three has sold the family home to pursue her dream, become a businesswoman and create a unique beauty salon packed with antiques, memorabilia and rare collectables.
Dennie Smith, 53, worked in a hairdressers for more than 30 years, before suddenly seizing the opportunity to own her own business.
With the agreement of her husband and three children, Mrs Smith sold their home in Forestdale, exchanging on April 7, and picked up the keys for her venture, Vintage 62, – formerly Carly O’Connor Salon, Addington Road, the following day.
She said: “It all happened so suddenly. My family have been so supportive. It is a big upheaval.”
Inside, she has furnished the waiting room with 1930s cinema seats, decorated with wartime memorabilia and installed 1960s style hairdressers in time for a celebra- tory opening held last week.
She said: “I love interior design and wanted to create something unique. Hopefully it will prove a hit.”
