Young footballers from AFC Ewell Eagles ran the Nonsuch Park 5km after a teammate’s dad was diagnosed with blood cancer.
The boys, all 13-years-old, banded together to raise money for DKMS Blood Cancer who search for lifesaving blood stem cell donors.
The run took place last Saturday (January 27) and, at the time of writing, they have raised more than £5,000 and donations are still open.
James Woodham, manager and coach, said: “It was great – it was really cold on Saturday morning but everybody did it and enjoyed it and quite a lot of parents got involved too.”
The boys are also encouraging people to become potential blood stem donors - all it takes is a cheek swab – and they will be holding a swabbing session at their grounds in Gibraltar Recreation Ground soon.
