Police officers who helped a young woman out of the Thames after a suicide attempt in July have been commended by the Surrey Chief Constable.
The woman was standing on a bridge in Walton, and when she saw police she jumped 20 feet into the water.
PC Cheryl Williams entered the river and swam with the woman, who was resisting, to shore.
She was then detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital to receive the care she needed.
PC John Williams was also commended for the continuous support he showed his colleague and the vulnerable woman.
They were congratulated for their bravery and quick thinking at The Chief Constable’s Commendations, on Thursday, November 30, at Guildford Cathedral.
