Children at Wallace Fields Infant School in Epsom have been named runners up in the Speaker’s School Council Awards, a national scheme which recognises innovative, effective and exciting school council projects.
As part of their entry, children at Wallace Fields organised a Christmas carol concert inviting the parent teachers association, parent helpers and local residents for some festive fun, while fulfilling the school’s target to promote economic well being and community cohesion.
Wallace Fields were selected from 800 school councils to take part and impressed judges enough for their project to be named runners-up in the aged four to seven category.
Judges included the Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt. Hon. John Bercow MP.
MP for Epsom and Ewell and Employment Minister, Chris Grayling presented the children with their award with each child receiving a certificate.
He congratulated the children on their success and said he hoped others would follow their example.
Head Teacher Nicky Mann added: "The children are overjoyed to win such an exciting award.
"They have worked hard with enthusiasm and have made us very proud.
"Well done to them all."
