A number of Wandsworth secondary schools showed great improvement in the last year, latest school league tables have showed.
The percentage of pupils achieving five A* to C grades including Maths and English has risen in many of the borough’s schools, although some school’s scores dropped slightly in the last year.
John Paul II in Southfields saw the biggest rise, from 27 per cent in 2009 to 50 per cent in 2010, with Battersea Park School also showing solid improvements, from 36 per cent to 55 per cent.
Headteacher at John Paul II, Rob Cooper, said: "These GCSE results are the culmination of a journey of success. JPII received an outstanding Ofsted last November and all students and staff have learning and progress as their top priorities."
Putney High School scored highest in the borough with 99 per cent, with Graveney School achieving the highest state-school score with 81 per cent.
The borough average was 58.1 per cent, 4.6 percentage points higher than the national average.
Chestnut Grove School scored Wandsworth’s highest contextual value added score - a score demonstrating overall pupil improvement from Year 7-11 - of 1071, which is the seventh best score in the country.
