About 4,000 north Kingston residents and businesses will have six weeks to comment on a draft planning brief for the new secondary school due to open on the North Kingston Centre site in 2015.

Although a full planning application is not expect until 2011, the 34-page document sets out urban design, sustainability and transport requirements so the new school fits in with the area and minimises any negative impact locally.

The brief allows school buildings to be up to three storeys for most of the site. The adjacent Tiffin Girls’ School ranges from 12m to 15m.

The document also states access to the school should be from Richmond Road but seeks ways to avoid congestion and maintain highway safety, and sets out which parts of the site should be built on and which left as open space.

Full versions of the brief are available on the council website, from the North Kingston Centre, Kingston library, Tudor library and Guildhall two, or from 020 8547 5420 or planningpolicy@rbk.kingston.gov.uk.

Drop in sessions will be held in the North Kingston Centre on July 14 and July 16.
