Pupils from St Mary’s School in Thames Ditton, who designed information boards for visitors to their local Squires Garden Centre, were awarded with goodie bags on Thursday, May 27.

The children’s goodies bags included wild bird feeders and boxes, as well as vouchers for the garden centre in Woodstock Lane North.

The information boards give visitors to the centre advice on wildlife-friendly gardening.

A wildlife garden has also been set up in the centre, with the help of the Surrey Wildlife Trust.

Jodie Mills, from the trust, said: “Gardens are becoming increasingly important havens for wildlife as habitats in the countryside shrink and fragment and climate change takes its toll.

“We hope that by linking up with the centre we can inform people about sustainable gardening practices that encourage wildlife and environmental conservation and have fun building some of the features in the process.”
