A Lambeth primary school reception place has been given to the child of every parent in the borough who applied on time.

Parents found out on Friday which school their children would be heading to in September.

Some 78 per cent of children whose applications arrived on time received their first choice and 92 per cent received one of their three choices.

Even parents who applied late will get a Lambeth school place, despite a 2 per cent increase in pupil intake.

Lambeth’s cabinet member for children and young people, Councillor Paul McGlone, said this had only been possible because of the Labour council’s primary school expansion strategy.

An extra six permanent classes and five temporary classes have been created out of the council’s proposed £47m school expansion programme, that is looking to specifically combat a primary school place shortage in the south of the borough.
