An extension to a Clapham school could cost £1m more than planned.

The extension of Clapham Manor Primary School, in Clapham Old Town, should have cost £2.5m but could reach £3.6m after a dispute between Lambeth Council and the building contractor.

Problems started when it emerged glass panels meant for the exterior of the building could not be produced in the required colours and specifications.

Work was also delayed when asbestos was discovered and vandals broke in and cut through electrical cables.

The council has agreed to pay £691,000 for the alterations but is in dispute over the £500,000 cost for sourcing the panels.
