Former Fleetwood School pupils from the 1970s are being rounded up for a nostalgic reunion on Friday, July 17.

More than 40 people have already confirmed attendance and the number has snowballed since an advert were placed on website friendsreunited.com.

Organiser Melanie Wright, 50, has planned drinks and a barbecue at Chessington Cricket Club, Leatherhead Road, after coming up with the idea at a funeral.

Past pupils are coming from as far as Cyprus, although many are still based in Surrey, Mrs Wright said.

She added: “I’ve been going through all the books and found ghastly pictures from the 1970s, where we all have bad hair and platform shoes.”

The school closed when pupil numbers fell in the 1980s but reopened as Chessington Community College in September 1989.

Anyone wishing to attend should call Melanie Wright on 020 8287 6208.
