A group of experts, including a Kingston University professor, gathered for the first time in the House of Lords to share their knowledge on the prevention of child abuse on Monday, May 11.
The Centre for Abuse and Trauma Studies (Cats) was jointly founded by Professor Antonia Bifulco of the department of health and social care at Royal Holloway, and Professor Julia Davidson from the department of criminology and sociology at Kingston University, who both act as directors for the group.
The directors were joined by academic experts and representatives from the fields of social care, health, police and legal services, who were able to pool their expertise on how to better care for children.
The meeting, entitled Route Mapping Event on Child Safeguarding, focused on concerns around the scapegoating of workers in child protection and sought to find ways of improving staff morale, recruitment, training and management.
