Primary school children were treated to a new eco-friendly menu last week, as part of a new incentive to encourage children to make environmentally-friendly food choices.

One hundred children aged four to seven at Hampton Infant School enjoyed delicious fish dishes certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

The healthy new menu, provided by leading school meal provider Sodexo, features the blue fish-tick logo of the MSC and assures fish can be traced back to sustainable stocks.

Headteacher Damian Burke said: “We feel it is very important children know where the food they eat comes from.

“I am delighted that Hampton Infants is one of the first schools to offer Sodexo’s new MSC certified menu.”

Pupils also learned about the increasing danger of fish stocks running out and teachers were presented with fish and kids packs, part of a project launched by MSC to teach children about the problems of over-fishing.

Managing director of Sodexo Education, Jane Bristow, said: “MSC certification will visibly highlight our commitment to supporting healthy marine life and stresses to pupils, parents and teachers the importance of choosing environmentally friendly options.”
