Quick thinking teenagers proved they can make their point during a schools debating competition.
The contest winners, Wimbledon College, now have the chance to represent Merton in a battle to find the capital’s top debating team.
They competed against four other schools - Ricards Lodge, Bishopsford, Raynes Park and St Mark’s Academy - for the prize last week.
Pupils aged 12 to 15 debated motions, including “this house believes that human genetic engineering has gone too far”, during the event which took place at the Chaucer Centre in Morden on May 20.
An individual prize for debating skill went to Ryan Rodrigues of Wimbledon College.
On July 2 his team will take part in a contest against schools from across London organised by the English Speaking Union.
