Teachers from Lambeth College marched through Brixton today in protest at “unbearable” working conditions.
UCU and Unison union members were joined by students on a march from Brixton College to Lambeth Town Hall at 12.30pm.
Lambeth College has buildings in Streatham, Brixton, Clapham and Vauxhall and some 20,000 students.
They were demanding no further cuts to college funding, and reduced workloads for teachers who they say have reached “breaking point”.
Susan McDowell, UCU branch secretary at the college, said teachers no longer had enough time to prepare lessons properly, which was not fair on students.
Alison de Lord, the college’s director of human resources, said the 15 per cent of staff who voted for the strike were “misinformed” as teacher cuts were not planned, and lesson preparation time had not been reduced.
