School league tables published last week show Lambeth’s state secondary schools’ performance went up by a record breaking 6 per cent last year.
Some 62 per cent of pupils in Lambeth secondary schools achieved five or more GCSEs grades between A* and C, up from 56 per cent last year.
The increase is the highest ever for the borough in a single year, and means GCSE results in Lambeth have improved for 11 years in a row.
Of the schools covered by the Streatham Guardian, Bishop Thomas Grant and the Norwood School improved most, getting 13 per cent and 11 per cent more pupils to achieve the Governments required standard of five A* to C grades.
Some 76 per cent of pupils at Bishop Thomas Grant and St Martins-in-the-Fields schools hit this target, along with 72 per cent of pupils at Dunraven School.
They were three of the five top performing schools in the borough.
Of the schools covered by our paper, Dunraven had the highest number of pupils getting 5A* to C grades including English and Maths, with 61 per cent of pupils achieving this target.
St Martins in the Fields had the highest Contextual Value Added score - 1033 - in the borough.
This figure is based on a number of factors relating to how well a pupil will perform and is the measure of how much pupils improve while at a school.
