The head of girls games at Downsend School reckons team spirit was behind a medal haul at the Surrey Schools K2 Biathlon.

Thirty-nine pupils from the Epsom-based school were up against more than 400 rivals from across the county in Crawley. Joe Mumford won gold in the individual U10s, while Lachie Thomson picked up bronze in the same age group – the duo, alongside Harry Goodman were crowned team champions.

Katherine Vann, Elizabeth Hallett and Amelie Hartley won U10s girls’ team silver.

Vann finished fourth in the individual standings.

The U11s girls’ team of Freya Taylor, Sophie Edison and Freya Hancock won team bronze.

Leyton Tribe was a medallist, claiming U12s individual silver, as well as team gold with Daniel Geddes and Albert Winterborn.

Geddes finished fifth individual, as did Jack Goodman in the U14s – he also clocked the fastest U14s run.

Elsewhere, Ava Gilbert claimed the fastest run title in the U12 girls age group.
