Children enjoyed a visit to Walton Fire Station to take part in safety awareness sessions as part of the Elmbridge junior citizen programme.

Pupils from Weston Green School and Hurst Park Primary School were encouraged to think about stranger danger, fire safety, how to make a 999 call and first aid.

The programme, also attended by the mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Barry Fairbank, aims to provide children with key skills and messages before they go to secondary school.

More than 1,100 pupils from 23 primary schools across the borough took part in the programme, which ran from June 2 to June 19.
