An environmentalist and explorer who crossed the ocean in a boat built from recycled plastics has spoken to primary school pupils about his adventure.

David de Rothschild talked to children at Wandsworth Preparatory School, in Allfarthing Lane, Earlsfield, on Monday.

The visit ties in with the reception children's project on the environment and the world around them.

It follows Mr de Rothschild's voyage across the Pacific Ocean in 2010 using a boat made from recycled plastics.

Polly Hazlewood, reception class teacher, said: "The children have all really enjoyed learning about the environment, and working on designs for their own boats made from recycled materials.

"It is wonderful for them to be able to meet a real adventurer and expert in eco-friendly boat design, to help them with their mission and to inspire them to continue their exploration of the world around them.

"We would like to thank David for his perfectly timed visit to Wandsworth Prep and for making a real difference to the children’s learning."
