A teenage playwright could see her work performed in the House of Commons after making the finals of a national competition.
Aleeyah Watson, 18, was one of 10 entries chosen for New Views’ National Theatre’s annual writing competition for 15 to 19-year-olds.
The St Cecilia School pupil will have her play, Plastic Heart, rehearsed and read by professional actors, before the winning entry is performed at
Parliament.
Alice King-Farlow, director of learning at the National Theatre, said: “This year more than 300 students from 47 schools across the UK entered the
competition.
“We encourage the young writers to write about what excites or angers them, and the plays clearly demonstrate a keen interest in voicing an opinion on the current political and social
landscape.”
