Three years of "transformational" progress has seen an Epsom secondary school become one of the top in the country.

National analysis of this summer’s GCSE results by the Department for Education shows that Epsom and Ewell High School, in Ruxley Lane, West Ewell, is in the top two per cent of schools nationally in terms of ‘added value’, as well as being one of the highest performing schools in Surrey.

The school said this is the result of three years of "rapid progress" and that it confirms Ofsted’s view that the school has been through "a transformational and very successful journey since 2009".

Headteacher Alex Russell said: "Whilst I am delighted with the results the school cannot stop here and must continue to provide an outstanding education for all the students in the local community.

"The recent success of the school has been down to the hard work and dedication of an outstanding staff and highly aspirational and motivated student body.

"These are exciting times for the school and I can only see us going from strength to strength."
