Wandsworth primary schools have been ranked sixth in the country for English and maths
results.

The Department for Education (DfE) league tables collated results through Sats examinations, with 100 per cent of students in four schools scoring top key stage 2 results.

All students at faith schools All Saints Church of England, Our Ladies Victoria Catholic school, St Mary’s Church of England and St Mary’s RC voluntary aided school scored level four or above in English and maths.

Pupils achieving level four or above in English and maths in Wandsworth altogether was 86 per cent, while the City of London topped the tables at 100 per cent.

The borough is ranked in the top three in inner London.

There are 95 primary schools in the borough, with children aged 10 to 11 sitting the exams.

About 95 per cent of schoolchildren made at least two levels of progress in English, and 92 per cent made at least two levels of progress in maths.

Only 6 per cent of students scored below level three in English and maths.

A total of 25 schools in the borough scored 100 per cent for making expected progress in either English or maths, including Albemarle Primary School, Beatrix Potter Primary School and West Hill Primary School.

Last month figures showed Wandsworth’s primary school children have an 86 per cent chance of attending a good or outstanding school.

The league table ranked local authorities using the results of school inspection reports.

Councillor Kathy Tracey, cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: “We want all our young people to achieve their full potential, and ensuring they get the best possible education, whatever their background, is key to this.

“These excellent results are down to the hard work of all our staff, students, parents and council officers.”
