Reports of gunshot have led police to close a Croydon road since the early hours of this morning.

A gun was allegedly fired in or near Waddon New Road at 12.40am today (February 7).

Police, including the firearms division, rushed to the scene.

A police spokesman has said: "There were no reported injuries. A vehicle was damaged.

"Enquiries continue; there have been no arrests."

Two Stockwell officers from British Transport Police were also at the scene when they saw the two suspects on a moped ride past.

A spokesman for BTP said: "As they returned to their car, which was near the junction with Rectory Grove, two suspects on a moped rode passed.

"The suspects approached the car and used something to smash the rear window before riding off.

"The moped has been described as dark in colour and was possibly displaying a rear ‘L’ plate.

"Initial reports suggested that a firearm discharge had caused the damage but work continues, including forensic enquiries, to establish exactly what was used.

"Detectives from the Met’s Trident and Area Crime Command investigate.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist the investigation is asked to call Trident on 020 8247 4863.

"No arrests have been made, enquiries continue."
