Crystal Palace first team coach Kit Symons believes it is only a matter of time before the club's missfiring frontmen start scoring again.

New signing Shefki Kuqi, James Scowcroft (pictured below), Dougie Freedman and Clinton Morrison have managed only seven goals between them so far this season as Palace have struggled to fill the void left by departed goal machine Andrew Johnson.

But Symons is confident in the Eagles strikers' ability and feels it is a matter of time before they find their scoring touch "They will start scoring for sure. There's goals there," said Symons.

"Scowey has been playing really well for us, Shefki has got a good goal scoring record at this level. We've got some good strikers at the club and I'm sure the goals will come."

Taylor has received criticism from some quarters for not purchasing a pacey striker in the Johnson mould during the transfer window, preferring the physical duo of Kuqi and Scowcroft, whom he brought for a combined fee of £3million.

Asked if he regretted not buying a quick striker on Saturday, Taylor said: "I'm quite happy with the four strikers I have got. Come back at the end of the season and we will see."

Symons feels Taylor's signings have nothing to prove and raw pace is not a necessity in the Championship.

"There are a few factors you need to break down defences. One is pace, one is creativity and the other is strength," he said.

"You do not necessarily have to have all three.

"It is quite rare when you see someone with all three and they do not come around very often. The only one that comes to mind is Theirry Henry.

"What strikers lack in one department they make up in another. Pace is important without a doubt, but it is not vital."

Despite having the four strikers at his disposal since the start of September, Taylor has yet to settle on a first-choice front pairing. But Symons believes he can get the best out of them by rotating them.

Symons said: "A lot of clubs which have been successful look to rotate their strikers to keep them fresh.

"Everyone has a part to play this season and will get their chance. Plus, there is no point relying on a front pairing to play all season because one is bound to get injured."

Palace's problems in front of goal have exemplified the importance of Johnson to Palace in the past five years. Symons feels Johnson is now getting the credit is deserves for his goalscoring exploits.

"He's proved he is no one-season wonder," added Symons. "He will go on to better things. Any club will miss a player of his ability."
