Putney’s Olympic rowing hopefuls will know on Wednesday if they have done enough to make Team GB for this summer’s Games when the London 2012 rowing line-up is announced.

Last weekend, Putney-based Phelan Hill and Matt Wells, and London Rowing Club’s Bill Lucas, Sophie Hosking and Rob Williams all made last-ditch bids to rubberstamp their selection at the second World Cup of the year in Switzerland.

Hill coxed the men’s eight to an impressive silver as they pushed Germany all the way.

Williams and the lightweight men’s four had to settle for bronze behind China and South Africa.

Hosking, in the lightweight women’s double scull, and Lucas, in the men’s double scull, finished fifth and sixth.

“We know that we have work to do before London,” said Hosking.

“But we have faith that every day we are doing the right things to put ourselves in the best possible position come the Olympic Games.”

Wells and the men’s quadruple scull team failed to make their final.
