Former Croydon Athletic owner Mazhar Majeed has lost the appeal against his conviction for the cricket match-fixing scandal.

Last November the disgraced sport agent was jailed for two years and eight months, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to cheat and conspiracy to make corrupt payments.

The Croydon born 36-year-old, along with former Essex player Mervyn Westfield, 24, asked judges to overturn their convictions at the Court of Appeal.

Although Majeed and Westfield, of Chelmsford, Essex, were convicted separately, the pair appealed together on May 24, as both cases raised the same point of law.

Both men's lawyers argued the offences for which they were charged did not reflect the facts alleged.

In February, Westfield was jailed for four months after pleading guilty to being paid £6,000 to bowl in a way so a specific number of runs would be chalked up. He has since been released.
